The magazine cover I am analysing is from a magazine called Total Film. The cover focuses on making the background dark to make the title, cover story and sub-headings stand out more. This is to attract the attention of the consumer. Usually, text doesn’t overlay onto the cover model, it usually is laid out to go around the shape of the model.
However, this magazine cover challenges the codes and conventions by placing the text directly over the cover model. The sub-headings are the same colour as the title of the magazine, which I haven’t seen on any other magazines I have analysed. Also, most of the sub-headings are in a smaller font, which does not grab the attention of the consumer.
The cover story grabs the attention of the viewers by being in a vibrant blue colour, when compared to all other sub-headings on the magazine cover this stands out a great deal. Also, the text at the top “Essential Winter preview” is at the very top of the magazine, above the title of the magazine itself, this shows the consumer that this magazine is a special edition of the magazine which makes them want to buy it more.
